THE AREA

Naxos is the largest island of the Cyclades and will definitely win you over at first sight. Upon arriving at the island’s port you see its trademark: Portara. Portara is a giant marble gate surviving the ruins of the Apollo temple which was never completed and stands prominent at the entrance of the harbour.

Naxos is an island satisfying every traveller’s needs, since it features a slew of activities, historical sights and beautiful beaches. Walk through its scenic tight back alleys and beautiful quarters of Chora and climb all the way up to the Venetian Castle to explore and marvel at the dazzling view from above. Then visit both the Folklore and Archaeological Museums of Naxos and indulge in a wonderful trip down history lane.

Visit any of the unique beaches on the island –many of which are Blue Flag certified– like Agia Anna, Agios Prokopios, Mikri Vigla and by all means our very own, amazing Plaka, and relish its crystal clear waters.

Don’t miss out on visiting some of Naxos’ old villages and discovering their beauty. A visit to Chalki, a mere 20 minutes away from Chora and Plaka, is highly recommended to taste its local citrus liqueur, a Naxos speciality.

PLAKA BEACH

As you explore the map of Naxos, just pin Plaka for your holidays. The area is ideal to relax and rest, amidst a beautiful and rich natural scenery and, at the same time, really close to Chora, the heart of the island. The Plaka beach, roughly a 4 km stretch, boasts golden sands. Its shallow waters make it safe for families with children, as our little friends will relish swimming in the sea, as well as playing on the strand for hours.

For those eager to explore the bottom of the sea, Plaka is surely fun to be had as its further out deeper waters offer rock formations ready to reveal their secrets. Water sports fans get an organised hub for an assortment of water activities to choose from.
